What you can specify

Raffia behaves differently from braid — here is what to specify.

Raffia is a natural fibre, so weave method and grade matter more than they do with paper straw. These are the choices that move both look and cost.

Weave method

Hand-crochet for soft, textured crowns, or sewn braid for a crisper, more structured finish. Crochet is slower and prices higher, but gives the artisan look buyers pay for.

Hand-crochet · Sewn braid

Raffia grade

Finer raffia gives a smoother, more even surface; coarser grades show more natural character and fibre variation. Both are legitimate looks — it depends on your price point.

Fine · Medium · Coarse

Shape & structure

Floppy wide brim, bucket, cloche, fedora or visor. Raffia can be left soft and packable or stiffened so it holds a defined brim.

Soft & packable · Stiffened

Colour & dyeing

Natural undyed raffia, or dyed to a colour reference. Because raffia is natural, slight tonal variation between pieces is normal and part of the material.

Natural · Dyed · Pantone reference

Trims & detail

Raffia cord ties, fabric bows, leather bands, shells, beads, embroidery and frayed brim edges.

Cord · Bow · Shell · Embroidery

Your branding

Woven inner labels, branded sweatbands, embroidered logos, leather patches and hangtags on natural card stock.

Order quantity

Raffia starts at the same tiers as the rest of our range.

Hand-crochet raffia is more labour-intensive, so the price break from higher volume is usually larger here than on machine-braided styles.

Stock & standard styles

No MOQ

Existing shapes, colours and trims with no branding change. Any quantity, from a single trial carton upward.

Custom trims & your logo

From 100 pcs

Your bands, trims, woven labels, hangtags and packaging. Workable at 100, though unit price is higher because setup spreads over fewer units.

Recommended

300 pcs +

Where most private-label buyers order. Setup cost spreads far better, so unit price drops noticeably with full customization retained.

Sizes follow our standard grid: toddler 48–52 cm, child 52–54 cm, youth 54–56 cm, adult S–XL 55–62 cm, and one-size 56–58 cm on an inner drawstring. Custom size grids are available for your market.

Common questions

What buyers ask before ordering.

What is the minimum order for custom raffia hats?

Stock raffia styles have no minimum. With your own trims or branding the minimum is 100 pieces, and pricing improves noticeably from 300 pieces upward. Hand-crochet styles benefit most from higher volume.

What is the difference between raffia and paper straw?

Raffia is a natural palm fibre — softer hand-feel, visible natural grain, and a premium look suited to higher retail prices. Paper straw is a manufactured braid with a wider colour range, more consistent appearance and a lower cost.

Are your raffia hats hand-woven?

Both are available. Hand-crochet raffia gives the artisan texture many buyers want; sewn raffia braid is faster and more uniform. We quote them separately because the labour content is very different.

Can you match a specific raffia colour?

Yes. We work from a numbered braid colour card and can match a Pantone reference or your physical swatch. Custom dyeing is available on larger runs. Some tonal variation is inherent to natural raffia.
